Lesbians and gay men
It is not illegal for a girl or young woman
to have a lesbian relationship. However, if
one of them is under 16, her partner may be
charged with indecent assault.
It is illegal for a man to have a sexual
relationship with another man until he is
18.A boy or young man aged under 16 can be
charged with indecent assault if he engages
in a homosexual act with another boy under
16 (who, legally, cannot give consent) or
with someone older who has not consented.
The older male can also face a criminal
charge.
A boy or young man aged under 17 could be
placed under a supervision or care order if
he is having a homosexual relationship. |

Divorce
A divorce cannot be applied for until the
couple have been married for at least one
year. There are no exceptions to this rule.
To get divorced in England and Wales, the
marriage must be recognised as valid by
United Kingdom law and one of the partners
must:-
» be living in England or Wales when the
divorce is applied for
» have been living in England or Wales
during the year before the application is
made.
