Police
A child or young person over the age of ten
can be fingerprinted, photographed and
searched while s/he is in police custody.
The procedures governing the treatment of
children and young people by the police are
set out in the codes of practice made as a
result of the Police and Criminal Evidence
Act (the PACE codes). If these procedures
are not followed, the evidence obtained may
not be considered by a magistrate or judge
in any further court proceedings. This may
lead to the case being dismissed. In
addition, disciplinary proceedings can be
brought against police officers who break
these codes of practice. |
