Family mediation and conciliation.
Family
mediation and conciliation are ways of
assisting separating or divorcing couples to
resolve disputes and reach agreed decisions
on specific issues arising from the
breakdown of a relationship. They involve
both partners and aim to clarify the issues
between them and to help them make decisions
which have legal implications or
consequences.
Two main types of family mediation and
conciliation are available:-
- out-of-court mediation, where people
can refer themselves or be referred by,
for example, a solicitor or adviser;
- court based conciliation services
where people are referred by the court
and seen at court.
